THE SHORT VERSION
Our verdict
This adapter is useful when a suitable antenna has a BNC connection and the scanner needs the corresponding SMA-side fit. Its job is mechanical and electrical connection, not signal amplification. Uniden identifies SDS100 and SDS150 for this part, which is more useful than selecting a generic adapter solely from a photograph. Before buying, establish the antenna's band, the connector genders and whether the complete assembly will fit comfortably around the radio. The adapter should solve a defined connection problem.

Fit and function
Uniden lists BYYG1687001 for connecting BNC-type antenna arrangements to the SDS100 or SDS150. Its fit should not be generalized to every SMA-equipped scanner because surrounding clearances and the exact connector arrangement can differ. No reception gain is attributed to the adapter itself.
The buying decision
A long rigid adapter-and-antenna stack can place an inconvenient lever above a handheld receiver. Consider the physical arrangement and cable strain as well as whether the connectors mate. If you already have the correct supplied adapter, another is a spare rather than a performance upgrade. Be wary of using several stacked adapters simply because each is inexpensive. A properly matched antenna cable can be a cleaner answer for a fixed installation. Check the whole connection route from antenna to radio before placing an order.
