How I got into scanners

My interest in radio scanners began during the COVID period. I owned a scanner while living in Ireland, and the hobby sits alongside my broader interest in technology and preparedness.

I’m Irish and now based in Johor Bahru, Malaysia. Best Police Scanners brings that hobbyist perspective to a guide focused on US scanner models, their capabilities and the equipment needed to build a useful setup.

A bit of a prepper

Preparedness is part of what interests me about this subject. The practical questions matter: what information can a receiver provide, how will you power it, and does it fit the systems and conditions where you plan to use it?

That perspective shapes the buying advice here. System compatibility, programming, antennas and power arrangements deserve as much attention as the scanner itself. A useful recommendation should help you understand the whole setup.

My role at Best Police Scanners

I’m the editor behind the publication and the named reviewer on its buying guides, product reviews and comparisons. The focus is clear advice for other hobbyists: who a product suits, which limitations matter and what else belongs on the shortlist.

You can find the selection process on our methodology page and the supporting product documentation within each article. If you spot a factual error or a specification that has changed, send the page link and relevant documentation through our contact page.
